THE 8th WINTER PINEAPPLE 21st FEBRUARY 2010 |
It seems every report now begins the same - it had been a rainy week leading up to the tournament, but the weather was fine for the actual playing of the round. There were numerous puddles and wet areas around the course, but once the match was underway, the rain held off and although the sun didn't exactly beam down in warmth, the day was fairly mild. Only three players played the whole course, with five others arriving at the fifth hole and one more at the sixth. Due to the age of some players and the conditions, a couple of the longer holes were by-passed with an interesting jink along the Albany Street edge hopping from the Pine Hidden by Holly, via a Parallel Pine (hole 7) and thence to the Large Horse Chestnut (hole 8) and so on the the Birch on Hill (hole 9). Jai and Richard were tied at the end of the round and after one playoff hole they remained tied. Jai eventually won the match on the second playoff. Lyndsay's score won her the Lady's Pineapple and Nat and Marianne competed with enthusiasm and charm as junior members. Finding the Edinboro Castle was under refurbishment and very busy, we made our way to the Crown and Goose on Delancey Street, for a very fine Sunday lunch. In all, another excellent tournament. Apologies for the short notice again but the Spring Coconut should be announed well in advance.
