THE 10th SUMMER WATERMELON 26th August 2012 |
This has been an excellent summer of sport and the Club intended to wrap it up with a fine round of FTG in the park. The few days before the scheduled tournament were wet, but on the day of play, the sun was out and the condition of the course was excellent. Summer rules mean that undergrowth at the base of target trees is in play, but the hazard of extra park users tends to even out the game. The course was adapted to avoid sunbathers and, instead of finishing towards the gate of the park, we turned back towards the Willow for the final two holes. This proved to be popular and may be added for future matches. Ten holes were played in total. Richard was the winner of the Gentlemen's Watermelon (actually a canteloupe) and after a three-way tie in the Ladies' tournament between Toria, Stephany and Lily, Stephany prevailed after a two hole play-off. We went to the Edinboro Castle for a lovely lunch in the pub garden and enjoyed the rest of the bank holiday afternoon by strolling around Camden market, and then to the zoo to see which animals we could see from the street. It was great to welcome Nadia, Lily and Alex to the Club - we hope they enjoyed their first experience of the game and will be back for more! Let's hope the Autumn Aubergine has as good a turn-out and provides such a fine contest!
