THE 9th SUMMER WATERMELON 29th August 2011 & 2nd October 2011 |
The Summer Watermelon is often the Club's problem tournament. Members have so many commitments over weekends during the Summer, and the park is often so busy, that it becomes a tricky date to arrange. Given only a few days' notice, it was unsurprising that only one person turned up for the given date - Ben duly won by playing the entire course alone in a score of 39 (including a hole in one at the short 11th). But the weather was so good during mid to late September that it was suggested an "Indian Summer" Watermelon be arranged. This was then booked in for Sunday 2nd October, and in bright sunshine the club played the third main tournament of the year. Nine holes were played, and a non-conventional course was selected as there were a couple of younger players and the park was still relatively busy. So we went from short hole to short hole and we had a rather good time! Ben won the Gentlemens' melon and Nat won the junior tournament. It was a super, if short, match, and afterwards our younger players went to the playground, while the older ones went for a smoothy at Whole Foods in Parkway which was delicious. On to the Autumn Aubergine!
