THE 5th SPRING COCONUT 20th MAY 2007 |
Despite a blustery few days, the club was
delighted to see fine sunshine on the morning of Sunday 20th May 2007
for the fifth open tournament for the Spring Coconut. The players gathered at the first tee, but there was no clue that we were about to witness one of the finest rounds of frisbee golf the course has ever seen. Everyone but Ben M threw with Aerobies and the consensus was that there should be no handicap for those using the remarkable flying disc. Since they are now the norm rather than the exception, this matter seems to have been decided. Two rookies joined the club - Michelle and Lucy 2. And off we went. The course was slightly altered in order not to disturb other park users too much, and in fact the new configuration (the 8th hole went from Red Leaner to Church Mound, the 9th from Church Mound to Horse Chestnut, the 10th from Horse Chestnut to Birch on Hill) was fun to play. In addition, the final 13th hole became a second short hole-in-one offering rather than the long drive across the busy grass. This, since the loss of the original stump, has always caused a ruction at the end of the round, but such a solution pleased everyone. Jane won the Ladies' Coconut, presented by Marijke and Richard, in an extraordinary display of accurate throwing, won the Men's. Course records are hard to judge with the new alignment, but needless to say he has set a new mark for this set-up. We headed to Wagamama after the presentation where we used 2for1 vouchers to feast like the hungry frisbee golfers we were. In all, one of the best days the Club has enjoyed - see you in the Summer for the Watermelon!
