THE AUTUMN AUBERGINE 26th November 2006 |
On Sunday 26th November 2006, the club held
its final tournament of the year, the Fourth Autumn Aubergine. The morning had seen rain showers from the
early hours, with many players fearing the tournament would be
postponed. However, the forecasters had suggested a mid-day window of
relatively dry weather and so the Aubergine went ahead. The lawn was
very soggy underfoot and sensible shoes (as suggested) were de rigeur. Ten players started the course at just
after 12.30pm and it was decided to play in one big group due to the
number of rookies - 6 were making their CLFTGC debut! The standard of play was extremely high
despite the conditions and Ben W won another tournament - his third.
Alys was the recipient of the Ladies' Aubergine. At the end of the round we repaired to the
Edinboro castle for drinks and a well-deserved Sunday lunch. The spirit of the players and the
excitement of the scores had made this one of the best tournaments in
the club's history and there should be shortage of returning players
for the Winter Pineapple in February. |
