THE 7th WINTER PINEAPPLE

8th FEBRUARY 2009

Who would have thought back in February 2003 when the club played the first Winter Pineapple that we would still be here, celebrating the 25th seasonal tournament? Well, here we jolly well are. Well over 100 players and two dozen unique winners later, the club is stronger than ever and we welcomed a record number to this year's Pineapple. So large was the field that we separated into 3 groups, skipped the two longest holes as has been usual lately, and the final group made another skip towards the end of the round, and still didn't get to the pub until around 2.30.

The week had seen cold snowy weather, but, as is so often the case, the Sunday of the tournament was sunny with minimal wind. There were still a few piles of snow, but the greater hazard was the number of puddles dotted around the course.

There was a brief pause in the action as we had the usual aerobie in tree incident, but it was soon recovered.

Richar H and Phil shared the Men's Pineapple with a terrific score of 25 and Katie T won the Ladies' just one shot behind. Her victory is a tribute to her dedication to the game and we hope her pineapple is particularly sweet.

We then made it to the Edinboro Castle for a wonderful lunch and birthday feast

In all it was a wonderful day and here's hoping the same weather greets us for the Spring Coconut in May!

NOTES

The pink and blue groups played ten holes, skipping the long southern extension of holes four and five on the course card and throwing to the pine hidden by holly from the traditional hole three.

They concluded the round at the horse chestnut near the path.

The silver group played only eight holes. We were lagging well behind and in order to catch up somewhat, we threw from the red leaner to the birch on hill, skipping what were holes six and seven on the other groups' rounds. Thus the silver group's scores could not be counted towards the pineapple - luckily no one was in touch to gain victory, but thanks to all the players for their sacrifice in order to finish in reasonable time.

.
Seven players scored holes in one at the short ninth - another record. They are marked with an asterisk above and were awarded golden plums.

Nat C's score is a junior record and congratulations to him and all the parents who made it around with their young supporters!
