THE 6th WINTER PINEAPPLE 10th FEBRUARY 2008 |
After a week of bright sunny days, we expected the day of the tournament to be cloudy and dull. But this year, like last, the Winter Pineapple was played in glorious sunshine. Another excellent turnout from the club meant we played the course in two groups. The revisions to the course - see the new map card - should have made the round quicker, but the sheer number of players looking for a game ensured that it took nearly two hours for the 13 holes to be completed. We welcomed half a dozen new members to the club, and while not everyone completed an entire round, their enthusiasm and enjoyment meant the afternoon was a joy. a number of old members returned for the walk and the chatting, and this is what makes the club such an institution - for those not interested in the actual sport, it has become a quarterly walk around the park, and that's to be encouraged. There was some excellent scroing in both groups. Three players made 42, two others threw a round of 38 but Ben M won the Men's Pineapple with a score of 34. Kat won the Ladies' Pineapple with an excellent 48. After the presentation the Club headed to the Edinboro Castle where we dined on birthday cupcakes but little else due to the slow service at the bar; another venue for the 14th hole next time perhaps? In all it was a wonderful day and here's hoping the same weather greets us for the Spring Coconut in May!
