THE 5th SUMMER WATERMELON 17th August 2007 |
London had been experiencing a very wet August, but the Club's hopes were high for a clear evening for the occasion of the Summer Watermelon and we were rewarded with fine conditions. Two newbies arrived at the first tee, Laurence and Rose, full of ambition and no little skill and, as the round progressed their talents at the game emerged. We took the now traditional shorter route between holes 8 and 10, and the 13th went to the last tree towards the gate. The competition was excellent and after much delay from throwing of frisbees into trees, the round took an hour and a half. Ben won the men's watermelon and Rose, the ladies in her first tournament. We repaired to the Edinboro Castle to finish the fruit and relaxed over a few drinks. It had been a fine summer evening and everyone agreed to return for the Autumn Aubergine in November!
