THE AUTUMN AUBERGINE

18th November 2007

After a cold week in London and with heavy rain forecast for the day, the Club expected a low turnout for the Aubergine. However 11 players threw for at least part of the course, including three rookies and one player returning for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 2003.

The wind was biting but we set off in good spirits just after 1pm. Despite a few amendments to the usual course (only 11 holes were played) it was played with fun and sportsmanship. The aerobies were susceptible to the updrafts and a number of times they got caught in trees or went over hedges. Sadly we lost one for good on the 6th hole.

Pru was the clear winner of the Ladies' Aubergine with an excellent score of 38. Jai and Ben W tied for the Men's tournament and Jai was awarded the prize when Ben admitted he could not cook it for a number of weeks. Such sportsmanship is admired and very much in the tradition of the game.

After the round we repaired to the Edinboro Castle for prize giving and some warming drinks.

All the best to everyone who took part in the Club's tournaments over the course of 2007 and we look forward to welcoming you all in February for the Winter Pineapple!

NOTES

Due to the difficult conditions and the fact that one hole was surrounded by footballers, a shortcut was introduced. The 4th and 5th holes were skipped and the 6th went from the 3rd target (Straight on) to the Pine hidden by holly.

In addition the now customary re-ordering of holes 8, 9 and 10 made their playing more easy.

Most players used aerobies,  exceptions being Ben M, Chris, Malcolm and Charlotte.

Chris, Malcolm and Charlotte arrived and started playing at the 7th hole while Robin left after the 8th hole.

For once, nobody scored a hole in one at the short 11th so a number of plums went uneaten. They weren't quite ripe anyway.

The final hole was the furthest tree along the path out of the park and Ben W made up a 2 shot deficit here to force the tie.
